In line with its brand attributes of energetic and creative passion Sprite, the lemon based brand of Coca-Cola has successfully concluded this year’s season of the Sprite Triple Slam (STS)- the consumer engagement platform of the Sprite brand. The grand finale which took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites was exciting as the expo hall was filled to capacity as a mammoth crowd showed up to watch hot music sensation Wizkid, afro hip-hop maestro D’banj and DJ Jimmy Jatt perform.

The ambience was an embodiment of excitement, energy and fun filled passion; attributes which Sprite represents. The rap category, which was one of the key attraction of the show saw David Elechi (aka Emperor Trench) from Lagos, Jane Amadi (aka Janey Krest) from Calabar, Obinna Eneh ( aka Oobi)  from Abuja and Stessi Chima (aka Tessy) slugging it out. The criteria of stage presence, lyrical ability, audibility, originality and delivery preferred Oobi and Jeney Krest as semi finalists over the rest of the contestants. The rap attack and freestyle proved Oobi the superior rapper as his originality, delivery and the audience spoke for him.
Speaking on his choice, Eldee the rap judge said Oobi has originality, stage presence, creativity, improvisation, lyrical content and good freestyle ability and these are the reasons he emerged winner.
Soul sisters from Calabar, Elevators from Abuja, Furious Energy from Lagos and Men of Honour from Enugu battled intensely to emerge the dance winners. The semi final stage saw Furious energy and Elevators toppling their contenders with their costumes, creativity, showmanship, team work, synchronization and delivery. The final position saw the two groups performing face off acts, routine as well as freestyle dances in which the Furious energy from Lagos emerged winners. Michael, dance judge said the Furious Energy won because they are daring, creative and made good use of props which worked in their favour.
Oobi, winner of the rap category who was full of excitement and happiness said that the STS is a wonderful opportunity to discover and promote Nigerian talent. Voicing his thoughts he said he has been rapping for 5years and that his lyrics were intellectually sound and this emerged him top notch at the competition. “I want to say a big thank you to all my fans and well wishers and a big thank you to Sprite for this laudable opportunity”.
Kennedy and Dickson Abang, the duo of Furious Energy - the dance winners said they have been dancing for over 7years and their inspiration is Michael Jackson. Speaking for the team, Kennedy Abang attributed their success to God and hard work. He also thanked Sprite and Coca-Cola for showcasing their talents for the world to see.
Mr. Austin Ufomba, Marketing Director of Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited, said that the major motivation around STS is to connect with the core target - older teens aged between 16-24, with an urbane lifestyle who are creative and disruptive in their thinking and who have certain passion points. His words: “In consumer engagement you have to meet your target consumer at the point of need and be part of his lifestyle. This motivation gave birth to the STS which is also an opportunity to inspire those who have an innate energy or skill to come and compete and be who they want to be. STS is out to inspire Nigerian youths to greatness via their passion”.
The STS paraded finalists from all the regions that came to compete head on for the grand prize of N1.5 million each. Bassey Christopher from Calabar, Justin Williams from Abuja, Nwedo Chinonso from Enugu and Temple Obika from Lagos contended for the Basketball category seeing Bassey and Justin making it to the semi final stage. The contest which comprised dunking, shooting as well as ball handling was an opportunity for the players to express their uniqueness, creativity, confidence and shooting abilities and saw 19years old Justin Williams from Abuja coming tops. According to Mobolaji Akiode, the basketball judge, Justine won because he was well able to depict the swagger and edginess of the Sprite brand. She further stressed that his dunks were the best; he had the most variety of the contestants and a better ball handle.
